retarding the timing

defconsc: Are you planning on taking your car to the track?

maybe once or twice, mostly dayly driving. I live in Canada though. It gets cold up here. DO you have the MAP sensor or the JR boost timing control?
I heard that the btc makes a difference.

The MAP mod is the best choice for defeating tip-in or part throttle detonation. You can always increase your timing by two degree increments and then road test the car... if it pings under part throttle (going up hill in 3rd or 4th gear at low to medium rpm with the A/C on), then back the timing down TWO degrees and leave it at that.
The next best part is the JR BTC. It allows you to return the timing to stock and reduces the timing electronically where it is necessary.

thanks for your replies, now i need to buy the MAP sensor and the BTC. I heard that the MAP sensor is not needed for the B18C1.

I'm not using the btc or the map controller. But I plan on getting an msd btm for when I raise the boost to 9psi.
